Type Locality and Naming

The type section is located at Dongyou Village, Xichou, Yunnan. It was named by the Yunnan Party of Regional Geological Survey in 1976, and formally cited in Regional Stratigraphical Scale of Yunnan in 1978.


Lithology and Thickness

Limestone. Composed of dark-gray thick-bedded massive aplitic and sparry limestones, locally intercalated with clayey limestone. Thickness varying 57−147 m, being 89 m thick in the Dongyou Fm type section.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Unconformable contact with the underlying Upper Devonian stratum in the Wenshan area, and in conformable contact with the underlying Tangbagou Fm in the Luoping area

Upper contact

Conformable contact with the overlying Jiusi Fm in the Luoping area.

Regional extent

Widely distributed in southeastern Yunnan. The Wanshoushan Fm is the more widespread coeval equivalent in this region.

Fossils

Abundant marine fossils, including Corals Siphonophyllia cylindrica, S. caninoides, Keyserlingophyllum sp., Zaphrentoides sp., Syringopora sp., etc.,

Depositional setting
